BLITHE SPIRIT The Blyth Estuary – A Creative Haven

An exhibition of paintings, drawings, letters and photographs by artists and others who lived by or visited this beautiful Suffolk estuary…..  

Including works by Sir Stanley Spencer, Sir John Arnesby Brown, Sir George Clausen, Maggi Hambling, John Piper, Dame Lucie Rie and many of the other artists who gathered there.   

The key literary figure associated with Southwold is George Orwell, the exhibition reveals a series of unpublished love letters to his secret amore Eleanor Jacques. “Orwell fans will be highly excited by the discovery of these letters which provide a real insight into his character and his life in Suffolk in the early 1930’s”  D J Taylor, Whitbread Biography Award Winner  Orwell - The Life
