Julian Bliss is one of the world’s finest clarinettists, excelling as a concert soloist, chamber musician, jazz artist and tireless musical explorer.
He has always enjoyed mixing musical styles and his programme at the Holt Festival, accompanied by pianist Robert Bottriell, is no different. Together they will perform the following pieces:
Poulenc - Sonata
Debussy - Première Rhapsodie
Messager - Solo de Concours
Gershwin - Three Preludes
Gershwin - Soon arr Lewis Wright
Horovitz - Sonatina
Julian has included Debussy’s Première Rhapsodie, one of his favourite pieces to play, and Messager’s Solo De Concours. Both were conceived as test pieces for the Paris Conservatoire and were written to show off every aspect of the instrument.
Their programme combines a perfect mix of traditional classical alongside some of the jazz greats. A real musical treat!
Running Time 60mins
Bliss is indeed amongst the clarinet greats.
