In his 50 years with the BBC he has reported from 140 countries, covered 46 wars on 4 continents and interviewed around 200 world leaders, including Mikhail Gorbachev and Vladimir Putin, Margaret Thatcher and every other British prime minister since Harold Wilson, every German Chancellor since Willy Brandt and every French President since Giscard d’Estaing.

He is in conversation with BBC Look East’s Susie Fowler-Watt about his illustrious career in international journalism.
