Pop-up Opera present Emmanuel Chabrier’s rarely-performed Une Éducation Manquée, a deliciously madcap and witty 50-minute French operetta. Set in the time of Louis XVI, Une Education Manquée is the tale of two very young aristocrats who have just been married but are totally innocent of the facts of life. The tutor to whom the young Count turns for advice has spent his whole life out of the world amid books and is equally ignorant. When the disappointed bride, frightened by a thunderstorm, seeks refuge in her husband’s arms the ‘problem’ solves itself!
Sopranos Monica McGhee and Christine Buras are the young lovers, and baritone Oskar McCarthy is Pausanias.
Pop-up’s original take on this zany soupçonne is directed by Jack Furness, with musical direction by William Cole.
